Jen's Surgery and Other Updates

I had my polypectomy at 1pm yesterday. Everything went fine. Dr. Filer performed the surgery himself and was very kind both before and after (even when I was rattling off all the things I wanted to devour eat when I woke up from anesthesia - more on that in a second...). He removed the 6mm polyp we knew about and also took out 2 other smaller ones while he was in there. Looks like my uterus is all clear now and ready to go! The worst parts of the procedure were not being able to eat all day until after my surgery at about 3:30 (don't worry, I totally made up for it afterwards with a junior bacon cheeseburger, fries, chicken nuggets, 2 pieces of pizza, and milk & cookies- WOW- I hope my patients don't see this) and the other not-so-nice part was the nurses trying to get the IV in me. It took 3 tries because my veins were being stubborn. But, I was feeling fine afterwards and was back to work today!

Since our last post, we have received our "calendar of events" for the IVF process. Being the type A planner that I am, I love knowing exactly what is happening and when, with plenty of advanced notice. So to give a brief synopsis of upcoming important events: I will begin Lupron injections on January 27th. We decided to start the medications after January 1 when my flex spending account restarts and we can pay for the meds with that all at once (we're estimating about $2,000 for meds alone). Then, I will have 2 other sets of injections through early February. The egg retrieval is scheduled for February 19th and the embryo transfer is scheduled for February 23, 24, or 25. Ryan and I are both going to take the days off on Feb 24 & 25 since we won't really know the exact transfer day until right before. We figured we could use the "mental health days" around that time anyway. So, that's the plan... hopefully it all goes smoothly and ends with the outcome we are hoping for! In the meantime, we are going to embrace this holiday season and be thankful for everything we do have. We truly hope to have a child to share the holidays with next year, but until then, we will keep our heads up and enjoy life as we know it. Merry Christmas!!
